Beekeeper's Notes: Subtropical Natives and Urban Blooms
Brisbane Honey is gathered from hives placed throughout our city's leafy suburbs, where subtropical natives, flowering gums and backyard blooms create a gentle, floral nectar flow. This honey reflects the character of Brisbane itself: warm, green and full of life.
Urban beekeeping plays an important role in keeping Brisbane a leafy city. Gardens, street trees and pockets of native bushland provide a steady source of nectar, and the bees move through these spaces with the seasons. The result is a smooth, lightly floral honey with a clean sweetness and soft notes from the city's subtropical flora.
To bring this honey together, we work with independent beekeepers across Brisbane who care for hives in different neighbourhoods and foothills. Each harvest carries subtle variations, yet always holds the freshness and brightness that makes our city's honey so distinctive.
Tasting notes
- Colour — Light to medium amber, bright and golden.
- Primary flora — Flowering gums, bottlebrush, grevillea, lilly pilly and garden blossoms.
- Flavour — Smooth and bright with lightly floral, herbaceous notes and a clean finish.
- Best with — Tea, fruit, toast, yoghurt. Perfect for every day, and wonderful as a gift.
- Perfect for — Those who like a bright, herbaceous honey with a more unexpected floral character.
Most urban honey comes from a handful of plants. Brisbane honey comes from hundreds, and that breadth is what gives it its character. Brisbane Honey is Stop 04 on our Queensland Nectar Trail.
